Major changes over the past 20 years:

1️⃣ Manufacturing jobs decreased from 14.3% to 8.7%, possibly due to:

  • Offshoring
  • Automation

2️⃣ Healthcare roles grew from 10.3% to 12.8%, likely due to an aging population. We can expect this percentage to continue rising.

3️⃣ Construction jobs rose from 4.7% to 6.5%, possibly driven by several factors such as

  • Population growth
  • Aging infrastructures
  • Aging housing stock

4️⃣ Employment in the trades sector, encompassing wholesale and retail stores, declined from 17.9% to 15.8%, possibly due to a shift towards wholesale dominance, which typically requires fewer staff per buyer.

5️⃣ Forestry & logging jobs declined from 0.5% to 0.2%, possibly driven by mainly automation & regulation.

6️⃣ Public administration jobs increased slightly from 6.7% to 7.1%, due to the increasing size of governments.
